With a lifetime dedicated to sports, Derek Maunder, Houston Event Manager for sEATz sat down with us to talk about what he’s seen in the industry.
Having studied Sports Management and graduating from Texas A&M, Derek moved to Frisco, Texas to start his career with Primetime Sports, an organization that orchestrates high school and youth basketball tournaments. Derek spent a lot of time in Houston, where the sEATz team is headquartered and found himself talking with the team about the vision for mobile concession ordering at sports and entertainment venues.
With a strong background in putting together great events, the team welcomed Derek to take over logistics and operations in the Houston and surrounding markets. Being cut from the same cloth, Derek joined a team of already enthusiastic members for streamlined smooth processes. Derek went on to talk with us about COVID-19 and the lasting effects it will have, and already does have, on a fan’s expectations at games. “They are going to want less touchpoints”, Derek mentioned describing each and every physical touchpoint that has traditionally been needed for a fan to purchase food, beverage, or otherwise in the concession stands. He applauded the double-edge value sEATz can bring to both the fan and concessionaire, working to mitigate touchpoints via contactless mobile ordering, and providing a higher quality fan experience that everyone can be happy about.
